Granite slugs were a type of small slug found on the ecumenopolis Coruscant. The slugs were silica parasites capable of consuming mineral matter, excreting acidic saliva as they moved across the surface of buildings and then consuming the resulting slime using their two mouths. This left behind trails of acid on the buildings that created rune-like scars in the duracrete.[1]
During the Clone Wars, the Senate Rotunda Preservation Committee, a committee within the Galactic Republic's Galactic Senate, was responsible for exterminating granite slugs and keeping the Senate Rotunda in the Senate Building architecturally sound.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Granite slugs were first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 Star Wars Roleplaying supplement published by Fantasy Flight Games.[2] The slugs were originally created for the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in Kevin J. Anderson's[3] February 1994[4] novel Jedi Search,[3] before appearing for the first time in the book's sequel, Dark Apprentice, which was also written by Anderson[5] and released in June 1994.[6]
The slugs were then depicted for the first time in Legends in The Essential Guide to Planets and Moons, a 1998 reference book written by Daniel Wallace with illustrations by Brandon McKinney and Scott Kolins.[7]
