"Of course, it should be mentioned here that the Neimoidians are notorious virus carriers. Although immune to most harmful microbes themselves, they have been the scourge of the galaxy, responsible—although they deny it—for the Great Pandemic of Deersheba and the equally lethal Intestinal Revenge of Bars Barka that created the massive weight loss that swept through the Ubese colonists."
―Ebenn Q3 Baobab, Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide[1]

The Great Pandemic of Deersheba was an outbreak of a deadly viral infection disease[1] that originated[2] in the Mid Rim's Deersheba system.[3] The outbreak was caused by members of the Neimoidian species, who served as virus carriers for the disease, although Neimoidians themselves denied their responsibility for the event. The Great Pandemic of Deersheba was eventually mentioned by the author Ebenn Q3 Baobab in the 6 ABY edition of his book the Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Great Pandemic of Deersheba was introduced in the 2001 book Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide, authored by Ben Burtt.[1]

(backup link) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas, stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for the Great Pandemic of Deersheba in relation to the Deersheba system.
