Greater Marianas was a little known dust-swept planet in the Outer Rim Territories subjugated by the Galactic Empire some time before the Battle of Yavin. It contained at least one settlement of Humans and was also home to the yaggie, a creature hunted for its skin and meat.

It was deemed unnecessary to require a permanent Imperial garrison in place while an imposed tax requiring revenue to be collected mid and end of season was maintained.
