Greedo the Elder was a Rodian of the Tetsu Clan who lived in Mos Espa alongside the young Anakin Skywalker and W. Wald circa 32 BBY. He later became a famous bounty hunter, sired two sons, and became a leader of his clan. He was murdered by his arch rival, Navik the Red.

[edit] Biography
In his youth on Tatooine, Greedo was noted for his temper. He accused Anakin of cheating in the Boonta Eve Classic podracer, resulting in a scuffle that Qui-Gon Jinn had to break up. His friend W. Wald warned him that if he continued his violent ways, he would eventually come to a bad end.
At some point, Greedo returned to Rodia, becoming a successful bounty hunter, marrying and siring two sons. He seemed to take Wald's lesson to heart, since as an adult, Greedo began to look upon the traditional Rodian hunts as foolishness, and despite his feared reputation, Greedo refused to join in the gladiatorial combat that his people engaged in.[1]
Wald's prediction did come true however, and after a successful career hunting criminals and outlaws, Greedo came to a violent end when his first-born son was young, dying in the purges of Navik the Red.
Greedo's pregnant wife Neela, along with his son and namesake, and brothers-in-law Nok and Teeku, fled Rodia. Raised on an unidentified jungle planet, Greedo's son sought to emulate his father by claiming the bounty on Han Solo, but died as violently as the first Greedo had.
[edit] Behind the scenes
Greedo's scuffle with Anakin Skywalker was cut from The Phantom Menace, but the deleted scene is included as part of the bonus material on the DVD.
The original intention was that this Greedo would be the same Greedo seen in A New Hope, and that Wald's prediction would foreshadow Greedo's death at the hands of Han Solo. However, in order to keep the Expanded Universe backstory developed for the A New Hope character intact, later references have retconned the Rodian who fought with Anakin as Greedo the Elder.[source?]
Since Wald was not cut from The Phantom Menace, some fans confuse him with the elder Greedo.[source?]
