[edit] History

[edit] Battle of Yavin

This squadron provided cover for Blue Squadron during the Battle of Yavin.[1]

[edit] Aboard Liberty

A Green Squadron, flying Y-wing and later B-wing starfighters was stationed aboard the Liberty during operations in the Airam sector as well as in the months leading up to the Battle of Endor.

[edit] Battle of Endor

Green Squadron flew A-wings during the Battle of Endor. In that engagement, Green Leader was Arvel Crynyd, who famously helped destroy the Executor. Other members included Tycho Celchu (Green Three) and Jake Farrell.

[edit] New Republic service

A Green Squadron composed of B-wings and Y-wings was destroyed by the TIE Pirates while protecting a New Republic Convoy.

B-wings and Y-wings flying for Green Squadron fought the Galactic Empire's World Devastators at the Battle of Mon Calamari. It later fought at the fall of Coruscant during the Yuuzhan Vong War, where it was pulled away from the Pride of Honor to defend the Alamania.

[edit] Blackmoon Squadron

Another Green Squadron, composed of E-wings, was led by Captain Yakown Reth and assigned to Pyria VI prior to the Battle of Borleias. This squadron was later reorganized into Blackmoon Squadron, also under the command of Reth.

[edit] Behind the scenes

The Star Wars: A New Hope novelization mentions a Green Squadron covering the squadron that would become the film's Red Squadron. Since only the novelization mentions Green and every other squadron's name changed from novel to film, it was uncertain for many years that the extra squadron was named Green. The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia finally referenced the squadron in 2008.
