"The metal in that helmet could be useful. Not worth much, but still…"
―Groggin to Darth Vader, shortly before his untimely demise[src]

[edit] Biography

During the Imperial subjugation of Bespin, Groggin noticed an odd pair of objects amid the rubbish on the conveyor that was destined for Smelting Core D's furnace. Though he did not know it, both were the property of Luke Skywalker — a severed Human hand which still firmly gripped a lightsaber. Groggin decided that he would keep the odd-looking cylinder to melt it down and incinerate the hand.[1]

Unbeknownst to Groggin however, Darth Vader had taken an interest in finding Skywalker's hand and lightsaber. Kohvrekhar and Ghazhak — two of Vader's Noghri guards — had discovered the two objects and had notified their master of its location.[2] Vader decided to personally acquire the hand and the lightsaber, and arrived at Smelting Core D while they were in Groggin's possession.

When Vader demanded that Groggin release the hand to his custody, Groggin told him that he would accept no less than two thousand credits for it, though he also did express some interest in trading the hand for Vader's helmet. It is likely that Groggin's defiance of the Dark Lord's demands had more to do with his ignorance of larger happenings in the galaxy rather than any deeply-held principles. Nevertheless, Vader made him pay for his impertinance by choking him to death with the Force and taking possession of Skywalker's hand and lightsaber.[1]
