Ground warfare
Ground warfare relates to the use of infantry and ground vehicles to engage other ground units on a planet's surface. Ground battles and the tactics employed during them were modified throughout the millennia, spanning from the first combats between primitive civilizations to the formation of organized militias and other military forces to the invention of the blaster and the repulsorlift to the construction of the first battle droids.
Overview
Edit

Ground warfare regularly evolved into tremendous sized battles, often involving millions of troops and ground vehicles. The ground battle is often conducted in an attempt to seize control of a planetary system's capital, or a large military base. However, ground warfare is not limited to large army upon army conflicts. As in the battle of Endor, small tactical infiltration can spark into a larger ground battle. Ground conflicts could also result from civil wars, were two factions of the same planet would clash for various reasons, more prominently to fight for control of a certain portion of territory or the supremacy of their respective factions.
Ground warfare commonly consists of a defender (often the faction politically in control of the planetary system) and an offender. The defender has the advantages that come with defense, fortresses, the ability to dig in, and fall back. While the offender has the advantages of offense, orbital bombardments and bombing runs and a theoretically unlimited supply of troops (if the offender has access to soldiers on other worlds they can constantly bring in supplies and soldiers, if the planet is under blockade, the defenders cannot). Ground conflicts often occur in congruence with space battles, and/or lightsaber duels. For instance, the battle of Endor, the battle for Naboo, and the battle of Coruscant.
