An heatbeam was a device that produced a focused laser that instantly heated up whatever it was aimed at.

Originally designed as a manufacturing technology, a heatbeam was capable of producing enough heat to weld and cut through metals. In addition to manufacturing, heatbeam technology was also used in survival technology, where it could serve as a fire starter, or a highly capable weapon.
