The EVO troopers (short for "Environmental"), or heavy stormtroopers were an organization of stormtroopers equipped with heavy armor and breathing tubes.

They were trained to survive in the most hazardous conditions such as extreme heat, acid rivers, and lightning. They were equipped with FA-3 flechette launchers and some utilized T-21 light repeating blasters. They were possibly a variant or predecessor to the Hazard trooper.

It's possible that EVO troopers are also predecessors of the sandtroopers. Both trooper variants carried T-21 light repeating blasters, were trained to survive in hazardous conditions, carry backpacks and the EVO troopers' appearance suggests that they may have been based on Ralph McQuarrie's early design for the sandtroopers.
More recent Hasbro packaging identifies this trooper class as "EVO Trooper".
The title of "heavy stormtrooper" comes from Hasbro toy catalogues.
Heavy stormtroopers have alternately been seen with yellow paint decoration on their arms and legs.
