112th Repulsorlift Armor Regiment, commonly known as the Hell's Hammers, was an elite armor unit in the Imperial Army.

HistoryEdit

The 112th Repulsorlift Armor Regiment, nicknamed "Hell's Hammers", was originally formed near the end of the Clone Wars from various Republic Army tank units.^[1] It was created to crush resistance to Palpatine's New Order, and was led by Colonel Zel Johans.^[1] The 112th's primary tasks consisted of eradicating Alliance outposts and quelling rebellious uprisings across the Outer Rim.

Towards this end, the 112th was often thrown against superior forces, sometimes without proper support thanks to incompetent superior officers.^[1] Despite the heavy casualties that inevitably followed, the 112th were able to achieve victory, inflicting even heavier casualties on their enemies thanks to their superior training, equipment and morale. The disastrous Battle of Turak IV best exemplified this as one of many battles from which the 112th earned their fearsome reputation.

Originally a regiment, by 0 ABY attrition had reduced it to an effective battalion size. However, thanks to the continued success of the regiment and Colonel Johans' petitions, training of new recruits on Brintooin was begun to return the unit to full strength.^[1]

OrganizationEdit

At its outset, the 112th consisted of three battalions and a regimental command group.^[1] Standard tactics involved using two battalions at the forefront of assaults with the third kept in reserve to exploit any breakthroughs.^[1]

Post-Turak IV, the unit was reduced to operating as a single battalion of three armor troops, a reconnaissance troop, and the command group. Each armor troop was made up of four squadrons of four tanks each, able to operate independently or together for assaults. The recon unit consisted of three airspeeder squadrons and one speeder bike squadron, used to scout ahead of the main force for weak points in the enemy's defenses. The command group, and the battalion, was personally led by Colonel Johans, and consisted of one tank squadron and a gun battery of four DF.9 anti-infantry battery and two DF.1 Spray Blasters.^[1]

The battalion also had a support arm of 30 technicians, 10 engineers, Heavy recovery vehicles and barges.

CompositionEdit

The primary tank of the Hammers was the S-1 Firehawke heavy repulsortank and later on, the 1-H Imperial-class repulsortank. The latter was handed to them over two years after Alliance forces had decimated the regiment on Turak IV, as part of a reconstruction scheme that included new funding and materiel for the unit.
