The Howler Tree People were a sapient species native to Bendone. They spoke a strange and difficult language which they spoke with ultrasonic voices. A team of translators were required to act as an intermediary between them and a speaker of Basic. Even then it would take a significant amount of time to exchange greetings. Their ultrasonic voices could also give non-Howlers a headache.
In 23 ABY, New Republic Chief of State Leia Organa Solo entertained Howler Tree People diplomats. Despite the difficulty in communicating with them, Leia realized that entertaining these diplomats was crucial to the survival of the New Republic.
