"The Idellian scanner isolated thirty lifeforms-a crew of humans and near-humans-which is in keeping with the practice of placing sentients in command of most Providence-class ships."
―An Imperial technician informs Tarkin of the Idellian scanner's readings[src]

Idellian was a company that produced scanners during the early years of the Galactic Empire's reign. The Empire made use of Idellian scanners in the facility known as Sentinel Base, and during an attack on the base by a rebel cell using a warship pieced together from old Confederacy of Independent Systems starships, the scanner picked up thirty lifeforms aboard the vessel. An Imperial technician later informed the base's commander Governor Wilhuff Tarkin of the scanner's findings.[1]

Behind the scenes

Idellian was originally created in 1995 under the name Idellian Arrays for Galladinium's Fantastic Technology, a Star Wars Legends sourcebook for the West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. It was then brought into canon, although under just the name Idellian, in Tarkin, a 2014 novel by James Luceno.
