"Sir, the villagers?"
"Kill them all.
"
―Captain Phasma is given orders by Kylo Ren to kill Munica and the other captives[src]

Ilco Munica was an Abednedo male who lived as a member of the Church of the Force in the village of Tuanul on the planet Jakku. When the First Order attacked Tuanaul in order to find the retired explorer Lor San Tekka, Munica and many other villagers were captured as they tried to defend their homes. After witnessing the execution of Tekka and the capture of the Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, Munica and the other prisoners were executed by stormtroopers under orders from their leaders Captain Phasma and Kylo Ren.

Biography

The Abednedo male Ilco Munica lived in the sacred village of Tuanul around thirty years after the Battle of Endor. Like the other residents of the village, he was a member of the Church of the Force, a religious group who praised the virtues of the Force, despite not being able to use it. While Munica lived there, a force of sixty[2] stormtroopers serving the First Order assaulted Tuanul in order to locate Lor San Tekka, a retired explorer living in the village who possessed part of a map that lead to the hiding place of the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.[1]

During the battle, Munica was surrounded and screamed and yelled, as a pair of stormtroopers forced him to his knees at gunpoint. He and the other survivors were then rounded up to huddle in a group on their knees, watching as the First Order agent Kylo Ren arrived at the village and killed Tekka when the old man turned out to no longer have the map. The execution drew the Resistance pilot Poe Dameron—who had been visiting Tekka— out of hiding nearby, as he attempted to attack Ren and take vengeance. The attack was unsuccessful and Dameron was captured. When it turned out he also did not possessed the map, he was taken prisoner and dragged to Ren's Upsilon-class command shuttle. Captain Phasma, leader of the stormtroopers in the village, then approached Ren and was given the order to execute the remaining villagers. On the captain's orders, the troops surrounding the captives opened fire with their blasters and killed Munica and all others present.[1]

Personality and traits

Munica had mottled pink skin and black eyes. Like all residents of Tuanul, he rejected comforts and luxuries in favor of living an ascetic lifestyle. Although not a pacifist, he chose to use weapons he and the other villagers had made themselves instead of those manufacturer by large corporations that profited from violence.[2]

Equipment

While living at Tuanul, Munica wore a green pilgrim's robe and a pair of brown insulated boots. In battle he used a blaster rifle built with parts including a pump-action recharger and a salvaged industrial power shunt. The weapon's stock was weighted and so allowed the weapon to double as a war club.[2]

Behind the scenes

Ilco Munica[2] first appeared in the film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, which was released in 2015.[1] The screams and yells for the character were performed by the voice actor Dee Bradley Baker,[3] best known for voicing all of the clone trooper characters in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.[4] The character was not named in the film, but was identified in Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo and released alongside the film.[2]
