The Imperial Patrol Ship was a militarized variant of the Corellian Engineering Corporation Action IV transport. It saw service during the Galactic Civil War as a support ship for remote Imperial outposts, combining the twin roles of resupplying Imperial personnel and performing customs inspections.

Although it could technically be considered a capital ship, the Imperial Patrol Ship was lightly armed, with just a pair of anti-starfighter laser cannons, and two obsolescent T.I.E. starfighters, earlier models than the standard TIE/ln. Most patrol ship captains realized that their main defense was psychological: the threat of Imperial reprisals if they were attacked.
