The Imperial Sector Police or simply the Sector Police was a law enforcement agency on Coruscant with a jurisdiction that was confined to individual planetary sectors.

Organization
Edit
Led by the Sector Command, each police contingent was assigned to a specific sector of Coruscant. The individual sector contingent was in turn commanded by a Prefect. Prefects were organized as members of the Prefecture. A known police rank beneath the Prefect was a Centurion.[1]
The sector contingents were sometimes referred to as a department[1] and the entire Sector Police was sometimes referred to as a constabulary.[2] Members of the Sector Police took pride in being separate from the politics of Emperor Palpatine's New Order. However, in practice, this did not always prove to be the case.[1]
Each sector had a headquarters, also called a station house, with a jail. Police outposts were maintained to cover other areas and in the lower levels were heavily fortified.[1]
The Sector Police made use of police cruiser backup units and skimmers.[1]
History
Edit
Established during the Galactic Republic several decades before hand, the Sector Police was re-christened as the Imperial Sector Police with the establishment of the Galactic Empire.[1]
A contingent of the Imperial Sector Police was called in to disperse a protest that was held by students at the Imperial City University. The brutality of the Sector Police unit during their response was viewed unfavorably and the Centurion in command of the operation was subsequently arrested and charged.[1]
In 19 ABY, Prefect Pol Haus was sent to investigate the murder of the Caamasi artist Ves Volette on Coruscant. The case was later solved by Jax Pavan.[1]
A little less than a year later, Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader suspected Pol Haus of being a member of the Anti-Imperial underground movement known as Whiplash. Vader asked Haus to look for a supposed dangerous Jedi who had attacked an Inquisitor to see if Haus would reveal himself. Though unknown to Vader, Haus was one of the original founders of Whiplash. He was able to avoid being found out by Vader and was able for short time to assist Jax Pavan and his friends from being captured by Imperial authorities.[2]
Behind the scenes
Edit
The Sector Police was briefly mentioned in Coruscant Nights I: Jedi Twilight. However, their first appearance was in Coruscant Nights II: Street of Shadows where it was mentioned that a Sector Police communique had been sent "eighteen years" earlier confirming their existence before the Galactic Empire. Their status after the brief time covered by the Coruscant Nights tetralogy as well as their relationship with the Coruscant Security Force has yet to be clarified.
