Long, tube-shaped tanker ships identified only as Imperial transports were in use by the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War. One of their uses was transporting Tibanna gas.

CharacteristicsEdit

The ship was a long cylinder with a trapezoidal end piece housing the engines and living quarters. The bridge was raised above the engine pod. While the engine pod was relatively well shielded the forward tank section was not. A few laser blasts to this area while fully fueled would destroy the ship. Similarly, if an asteroid hit it in just the right area the ship was doomed. Because of these vulnerabilities, a tanker was usually accompanied by an escort of TIE/ln fighters and/or TIE Interceptors to provide protection.

HistoryEdit

The Imperial Tanker was used throughout the Galactic Civil War. During the Civil War, the Empire used the tanker to refuel Star Destroyers in space and to transport fuel to outposts and garrisons. The Empire also used this ship during the Subjugation of Bespin to remove most of the Tibanna gas from the canisters in the planet's atmosphere. They were also encountered by Rogue Squadron at the beginning of an attack against an Imperial base in the Maw.
