Ion grenades were hand grenades that disrupted electronics similar to EMP grenades.
Description
Ion grenades discharged an electromagnetic pulse that disabled any electronic devices such as droids, automated turrets, vehicles,[1] and personal deflector shields,[2]. An ion grenade was designed to explode on contact after it was thrown, triggering an ion burst with a three meter blast radius.[1]
History
Around 4000 BBY in the Old Republic era, Revan and Meetra Surik used ion grenades on their travels. Some Sith troopers also used them.
Ion grenades were also used around the time of the Invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY.[4] They were later used by certain clone troopers such as ARC troopers and clone commandos.[3]
