"We have been without an interpreter since our master got angry with our last protocol droid and disintegrated him."
"Disintegrated?"
―EV-9D9 and C-3PO[src]

A masculine protocol droid served as the interpreter of the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure until he angered his master and was disintegrated,[1] reducing the droid to a pile of scrap.[2] EV-9D9, the sadistic supervisor of Jabba's Palace's droid pool, later told C-3PO, Jabba's new interpreter, of his predecessor's fate[1] and gestured towards the droid's remains, which had been dumped near the door of a furnace in her torture chamber.[2]

Behind the scenesEdit

Originally created for the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi,[1] this protocol droid was first mentioned in a Star Wars Legends novelization of the film written by James Kahn[3] and released on May 12, 1983,[4] thirteen days before the film was released in theaters on May 25,[5] and his remains later appeared in Return of the Jedi: Beware the Power of the Dark Side!, a canon young readers novelization of Return of the Jedi written by Tom Angleberger[2] and released on September 22, 2015.[6]
