Jaig eyes

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

Jaig eyes—literally jai'galaar'la sur'haii'se (shriek-hawk eyes) in Mando'a, and more commonly referred to as jaig—were a sigil of honor bestowed by some Mandolorian clan leaders for particular acts of bravery, usually worn upon the helmets of clan warriors who had distinguished themselves in battle.[1]

Realized as a pair of stylized shriek-hawk eyes, the practice of bestowing jaig was one of the many traditions passed on to the clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic by Jango Fett and the Cuy'val Dar.

Recipients included Captain Fordo, who received the honor for his bravery on Hypori, Captain Rex, and Fenn Shysa.

[edit] Behind the scenes

Like much of the Mandalorian sigils and imagery included in the personalization of clone trooper armor, the design for jaig originates in concept art and early paint explorations of Boba Fett's armor that were abandoned prior to the filming of The Empire Strikes Back. See an early prototype paint image of Boba Fett's helmet.

Clone trooper action figures produced by Hasbro exist which feature jaig on the helmets of the figures, including an Entertainment Earth exclusive with two ARC troopers and two Phase II clone troopers, and Hasbro's ARC-170 Elite Squad Battle Pack (Target exclusive) featuring two Phase II clone troopers from Razor Squadron with the distinctive markings[2]. Captain Rex from the Clone Wars line of Hasbro action figures also features jaig.
