Jedi Commander was a rank in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. While all Jedi Masters and Jedi Knights were given the rank of Jedi General by edict of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, all Jedi Padawans were given the rank of Jedi Commander in the new army, regardless of whether or not they wished to assume military duties.
