The Jedi Council Forums, or JCs, are the message boards of the popular Star Wars fan website TheForce.Net. The forums cover a diverse range of fandom interests, from the films to the wider Expanded Universe, gaming, fanfiction and other fan activities. According to Big-Boards.com, the Jedi Council Forums are the 28th largest internet forum. Given its size and popularity, at various times the Jedi Council Forums has attracted a number of Star Wars VIPS—authors, artists, and editors—to post on the message boards. This interaction between the fans and the creators of Star Wars is a popular component of the site; however, it has caused problems on occasion, with a small number of VIPs ceasing to post on the forums due to various conflicts. These include both Troy Denning and Karen Traviss. This occasional animosity is despite the site's aim of providing "a family-friendly atmosphere of discussion for people of all ages."[1]

Inside jokes

  • Kyle Katarn: often referred to as "badass", and it's become a tradition to describe him as a tough-as-nails, nearly invincible warrior. A few threads collecting "Kyle Katarn facts" have been created; these made-up "facts" about Kyle and his trusty Bryar pistol parallel the "Chuck Norris facts" Internet phenomenon.
  • "The hat": a reference to K'Kruhk's hat and its alleged super-powers.
  • "Captain Obvious": Ric Olié. He is called so because of the habit of stating the obvious he expressed in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. TFN continues this "tradition" by attributing fictitious instances of stating the obvious to Ric Olié.
  • "Helm of Pessimism": Panaka's cap, which is supposedly responsible for his pessimistic mindset.
  • "Cannon go boom": usually posted in response to someone who misspells "canon" as "cannon".
  • Spelling names of hypothetical clones with double letters, usually vowels—for example, "Anaakin" for a hypothetical clone of Anakin Solo. This convention is derived from Luuke Skywalker and Joruus C'baoth, who are canonical characters.
  • "Sock": a sock is an additional username registered by a user, used for comedic or satirical purposes or to continue posting after being issued with a ban due to some infraction. Can also refer to a role-playing alias.
  • "YOU STOOD LITTLE CHANCE AGAINST THE GOD OF THUNDER" - a reference to Thor, and in discussion board parlance, needless or ignorant yelling,a common shorthand for it being YSLCATGOT.
