When Jinn and Kenobi returned to the Temple after Master Jinn had a vision regarding fellow Jedi Tahl, they docked before heading to the Temple's entrance where a security checkpoint was set up. They were stopped by Knight Cal-I-Vaun who stood to check all visitors into the Temple. The Temple was not to be re-inhabited for long, however. When the planet fell to the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Temple was ruined beyond repair. The docking complex was completely destroyed. The Temple was not gone forever, though. In 35 ABY, after the Yuuzhan Vong were driven from Coruscant by the New Jedi Order and the Galactic Alliance, Chief of State Cal Omas ordered that a new Jedi Temple be erected in a show of thanks for the Order's help during the war. Using schematics salvaged from the lost Jedi Archives, the Reconstruction Authority built the Temple almost exactly as it had been during the time of the Old Republic. The Order replaced the outdated starfighters of the past with the new, designed-for-Jedi StealthX starfighters.

The Docking Complex of the Jedi Temple was a series of landing platforms, hangars, and garages located within the Jedi Order's home on Coruscant. Situated on several different levels in and around the Temple the docking complex was used by both the Jedi Knights of the Order and civilian visitors, including Galactic Senators, members of the press, and other friends of the Order.[1]

History

In use as of 980 BBY, Princess Serra of Doan landed her ship on the landing pad at the base of the Tower of First Knowledge. Waiting on the pad were Jedi Ma'ya, Pendo, and Winnoa, who escorted the princess inside the Tower and to the chambers of Jedi Master Obba.[3]

In 44 BBY Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, docked in the complex having been recalled following an assassination attempt on Grand Master Yoda. Due to increase security, the duo had to perform a retinal scan before entering the Temple proper.[10]

Jinn queried Jedi Cal-i-Vaun about the location of Jedi Tahl; though he was unable to locate her he had no records of her departure. Jinn deduced that she had to be in the High Council Chambers and thus could not answer her comlink.[11]

As the Order moved to arm itself during the growing Separatist Crisis, the Council called for the refurbishment of the four Council Tower hangars. Freshly equipped with more space and technology, the hangars would hold a large portion of the Order's starship fleet.[12]

Following the Battle of Kothlis during the Clone Wars, Knight Kenobi was brought to the Temple by Senator Bail Organa after the Senator picked him up from the Grand Army of the Republic docks and barracks complex. Due to Organa's relations with the Order he was afforded a security pass whcih allowed him to bypass public parking sectors and dock in restricted hangars.[1]

Reporting to the Temple following the Battle of Coruscant to consult Grand Master Yoda, Jedi Anakin Skywalker went to the restricted pad at the base of the High Council Tower after the meeting in search of Obi-Wan Kenobi. On the pad he found the Supreme Chancellor's shuttle flanked by Red Guards waiting to take him to the Republic Executive Building for a private meeting with the Chancellor.[13]

In 19 BBY Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was discovered to be the Sith Lord the Order had been hunting since the death of Qui-Gon Jinn on Naboo at the hands of a Zabrak Sith. Hoping to arrest the Dark Lord a group made up of members of the Jedi High Council headed to capture Darth Sidious, leaving the Temple under the command of Jedi Gate Master Jurokk and Master Shaak Ti. Sealing the Docking Complex, all nav beacons and signal lights in the hangars were switched off to disguise the entrances. When all four masters were slain by Sidious and his apprentice, Darth Vader the Temple prepared for an onslaught having felt a great disturbance in the Force. Issuing orders to the Grand Army of the Republic to carry out Operation: Knightfall, the Temple was besieged and raided.[5] With the Jedi dead or in hiding, the Temple fell into ruin, its Docking Complex in shambles. Palpatine declared himself Emperor and stationed stormtroopers at all of the Temple's entrances that were not sealed or cordoned off. Shortly following the raid, Grand Master Yoda and Master Kenobi infiltrated a lower level docking bay used in the delivery of food to gain access to the enormous complex. Decoy Squad Five attempted to stop the fugitives, but all members of the squad were slain.[13] The docking complex would stand largely unused for most of the Galactic Civil War, with an enclave built on the Ziggurat's roof following a New Republic victory on the former Imperial throneworld.[14]

The Order replaced the outdated starfighters of the past with the new, designed-for-Jedi StealthX starfighters.[2]

In 40 ABY former Captain Jagged Fel visited the Temple to request that Grand Master Luke Skywalker give his blessings on Fel's hunt for the Dark Jedi Alema Rar. Accommodating Fel, Skywalker allowed for the establishment of the Office of the Alema Rar Task Force in the Temple and allowed for the small organization to use a vehicle hangar in the pursuit of bringing Rar to justice. The vehicle pool contained nine X-wings and one E-wing.[2]

Following the Order's withdrawal from the Galactic Alliance and the formation of the Jedi Coalition at the Battle of Kuat during the Second Galactic Civil War, Chief of State Jacen Solo ordered the Temple invaded by the Galactic Alliance Guard. In response, all of the Temple's hangars were abandoned as the ships were used to transport the Jedi to the secret outpost on the Sanctuary Moon of Endor.[15]

Following the reoccupation of the Temple a few months later the hangars were fully operational and stocked. In 43 ABY several Jedi Knights who had stayed at Shelter Base during the Yuuzhan Vong War were stricken with an enigmatic madness, forcing the Order to detain them and hide them from the Coruscant Security Force members who wished to arrest them. Members of the organization Darkmeld smuggled Jedi Seff Hellin into the Temple via the Masters' Hangar to prevent detection.[8] While returning to the Temple from Fellowship Plaza, Knights Yaqeel Saav'etu and Bazel Warv went mad and headed for the southern speeder entrance in the Temple Court. Jedi Jaina Solo happened to be at the hangar entrance, as she was riding in Head of State of the Imperial Remnant Jagged Fel's limo, leading to the capture of the two ill Knights with the assistance of her parents, Han and Leia Solo. Because the hangar entrance was hidden behind a stand of Rutolu bushes, the members of the press that stood on the Temple steps did not witness the ordeal. Once inside the docking complex below the Temple Court, the Jedi were able to get the affected Knights into the hands of Chief Healer Cilghal.[16]

Later Jedi Leia Solo decided that the political climate on Coruscant was getting to be to much for the ill Knights and proposed to transfer them to the secret facility in the Transitory Mists. With the assistance of Knights Avinoam Arelis and Jaden Korr, Solo moved Saav'etu, Warv, Hellin, and Natua Wan onto FloatVans that had been stored in the low level hangars several levels below the Court. While the ill Jedi were being loaded, Mandalorians hired by Chief of State Natasi Daala opened fire on the hangar. While causing some mayhem, all the Mandalorians were killed and the FloatVans got off planet safely.[16]

Shortly after mad Jedi Sothais Saar was captured by the Order, Jedi Jaina Solo was in the docking complex when a larger band of Mandalorians attacked the main entrance, civilian hangars, and lower level food delivery hangar. With the assistance of Knights Tyria Sarkin Tainer, Raynar Thul, and Padawan Bandy Geffer, Solo was able to repel the invaders; though the docking level sustained extensive damage.[17] In 44 ABY, Saba Sebatyne led a group of Jedi to launch a wing of StealthX starfighters from the hangar. Grand Master Kenth Hamner declared the launch to be treasonous, since it opposed the Chief of State's will and endangered the Jedi. Sebatyne dueled the rogue Grand Master in the hangar, and the fight ended when Hamner fell down from a catwalk to his death, allowing the starfighters to launch from the hangar.[18]

In 137 ABY, following the occupation of the Temple by the One Sith and its conversion into the Temple of the Sith, some of the hangars used by the Jedi were still in use. However, during a skirmish between Darth Krayt's legions of Sith and Cade Skywalker's accomplices, a bomb set by Morrigan Corde detonated in the main hangar, crippling the fighters stored there before they could evacuate.[6]

Plan of the landing areas on the roof of the Temple Ziggurat.

The Docking Complex of the Jedi Temple was extensive and included several hangars and garages located in different parts of the Temple Precinct and the Temple Proper. Rebuilt and expanded over the centuries the complex entrances all guarded by ray shields and were alarmed. Most were monitored constantly by a guard who stood at an established checkpoint station.[10]

The main body of the complex was located below the Temple Court, as it was added after the Temple Ziggurat was erected. Accessible from the Court as well as the outer walls of the Precinct, different levels were designated for different uses.[17] The lowest docking bays were reserved for the delivery hovertrucks which brought in all materials that could not be manufactured or grown at the Temple. Food delivery hangars were equipped with turbolifts that transported all food into the Jedi Temple Storage Level; while other materials might be taken directly into the Temple proper via designated chutes.[19]

Within the vehicle hangars of the Temple were stored personal starfighters, as well as vehicle pools that could be signed out by any Jedi. Next to the civilian hangar, the New Jedi Order stored its StealthXs in a small hangar.[17] Before her death Master Mara Jade Skywalker kept her personal SteathX, 5-A, here.[20] A larger stadium-sized chamber was equipped with shuttles and larger ships.[17]

Above the delivery hangars was the civilian area where visiting diplomats and the public could park. Beyond these sectors were restricted hangars used by the Jedi and priority visitors who had gained clearance.[1] Accessible from the side of the block that the Temple sat on, there were also entrances from the Court. A southern speeder entrance was erected in the shadow of the Tower of Reconciliation and was used only by members of the Order who used the motor pool located in the garage below. A security gate was operated by controls located in the hangar beyond, with turbolift access to the Temple proper also available.[16]

As the Temple grew it became necessary to expand the Temple Precinct. Great Mooring towers were built in the surrounding areas to accommodate the greater influx of traffic to and from the Temple; the towers were overseen by a Chief Mechanic, who at the time of the Clone Wars was Boz Addle.[21]

Atop the Temple Ziggurat was located a series of landing platforms and garage entrances. Large enough to accommodate Consular-class cruisers, these pads were used when large parties of Jedi departed on missions. A press area was allotted for those media outlets that covered the movements of the Order.[22] Amongst these broad open areas was the landing pad reserved for the Grand Master of the Order. Located outside the High Council Tower, this pad was small and private, allowing the leader of the Order expedient access to the High Council Chamber.[1]

Also near the roof of the Temple were the extensive garages which repaired the Order's spacecraft. Equipped with retractable hatches in the roof, each garage maintained a maintenance crew capable of keeping the Order's war machines fully functioning and operational. Also on the Top level of the Ziggurat were speeders and other land vehicles used for travel around Coruscant.[12]
