The Grand Balcony of the Coruscant Jedi Temple was a large meditative area erected around the Sacred Spire. It served as a place of serenity and meditation for the members of the Jedi Order.

History

Built in the Jedi Temple no later then 1,000 BBY, the Grand Balcony was a place of meditation within Tranquillity Spire.[1] In the days preceding the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi ascended to the balcony in seek of a quiet place to meditate. Within a private chamber, Kenobi ruminated on the mystery surrounding the planet Kamino and why the Temple Archives had no data on the star system. His mind shifted to that of his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, and was curious when Skywalker's face began to shift to that of Count Dooku's. Forsaking the meditation chamber in favor of personal guidance, Kenobi made his way down from the spire and out onto the veranda.[3]
At the conclusion of the War, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was discovered to be the elusive Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Sidious; the true mastermind behind both sides of the war. Anakin Skywalker, corrupted by Sidious, assisted in the seizure of the Temple and completed the vision Kenobi had on the balcony, with his former apprentice replacing Dooku as the Sith Lord's apprentice. Leading the 501st Legion in taking the Temple, the Balcony was decimated and left in ruins for decades.[2] The Temple would survive the Galactic Civil War and much of the destruction caused by the Sith. However, during the catastrophe of the Lusankya the five towers of the Temple collapsed, completely destroying the Grand Balcony.[5] The rubble of the towers was cleared away by the reformed Order and an enclave was established on the Temple Ziggurat in their place.[6]
LayoutEdit
Located around the peak of the Sacred Force nexus within Tranquillity Spire, the Grand Balcony was an open-air area which was also equipped with private meditation chambers. Within these rooms, firm meditation mats were laid out while fountains bubbled quietly in the corner. In one room, a painting of a lava field was hung on the wall to induce a meditative state.[3] At the center of the balcony, the peak of the Sacred Mountain erupted, allowing the Jedi to be near to the nexus' power.[1]
