History
Edit
After the original Temple was destroyed during the Sith Empire's Sacking of Coruscant, the Order was eventually able to raise enough funds with the help of the Galactic Senate to start reconstruction on Tranquillity Spire. In 1,000 BBY, the Spire was completed and the Pinnacle chamber established at the summit of the tower.[1]
Located directly above the Hall of Knighthood, the Pinnacle chamber held the oldest and most sacred of the Order's texts and documents. Salvaged from the lost Library of Ossus, the ancient manuscripts were kept in a carefully controlled environment[1] and maintained by the Council of First Knowledge and the slew of Lore Keepers stationed at the Temple.[8]
In 19 BBY, the conclusion of the Clone Wars, the Temple was raided by the 501st Legion led by Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader. Ravaging the Temple, Vader secured the ancient texts, leaving them in the hands of his master Darth Sidious. After the roof was bombed by LAAT gunships,[9] Tranquility Spire was left listing, its interior crumbling.[6]
While the New Jedi Order, led by Luke Skywalker, was able to reclaim the Temple, the Yuuzhan Vong War saw to the fall of the five spires of the Temple, destroying the Pinnacle chamber completely.[10] It would be several years before the Galactic Alliance could completely retake the capital. Yet when they did, Chief of State Cal Omas ordered that the Reconstruction Authority rebuild the Temple using blueprints recovered from the Jedi Archives by Jedi historian Tionne Solusar.[7] When the new Jedi Temple was completed, Tranquillity Spire was concealed under a tinted transparisteel pyramid, though it once more soared above the Temple Ziggurat. The Pinnacle room was most likely restored at the peak of the Tower.[2]
