Every Jedi belongs to a Jedi class, which represents one's attitude to the balance between combat skills and Force discipline. Every class has its own preferences and limitations. Jedi class choice affects one's way of training and duties one has to follow during knighthood.

Jedi Guardians put most effort on combat training while receiving only fundamental training in the Force. Traditionally represented by a blue-colored blade. Guardians are sometimes referred to as Warrior Masters. Most Jedi Weapon Masters were Guardians beforehand. Notable Jedi Guardians include Malak, Mace Windu, and Anakin Skywalker.

Jedi Sentinels strived to achieve complete balance between combat and Force training. They were usually versatile in terms of skills, possessing many abilities. Traditionally represented by a yellow-bladed lightsaber. Bastila Shan was a Jedi Sentinel living around 4,000 BBY.

Jedi Consulars focused on Force powers while receiving only basic lightsaber training. Consulars were often Force-sensitive intellectuals such as librarians, seers, or researchers. Traditionally represented by a green-colored blade. The Jedi Grand Master Yoda and the the Jedi Master Jocasta Nu are examples of the Jedi Consular.

[edit] Behind the scenes

Of the three classes: the Jedi Guardian, the Jedi Sentinel and the Jedi Consular, the Jedi Sentinel class only appears in Star Wars roleplaying and is not yet considered canon. However, the Consular class has appeared in the Knights of the Old Republic comics, and is therefore considered canon, and the Guardian class was canonized in the New Essential Chronology, making that class canon, as well.
