Jedi instructor

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

Jedi Instructor B'ink Utrila.

Jedi instructors were Jedi Masters that taught younglings, Padawans, and the occasional older beings. Most Jedi instructors had considerable aptitude in a variety of skills that helped to maintain the Jedi's numbers. Particularly, Jedi instructors were adept at discovering likely Jedi candidates, preventing their students from falling to the dark side, and helping young Jedi determine the role they would best fit in the order.

Most were assigned to Jedi Praxeums or academies, though some ventured to the fringe regions of the galaxy in the hopes of discovering new Jedi candidates that may have been overlooked. If a Jedi instructor went to the fringe regions of space for an extended period, they often brought young Jedi, and occasionally newly promoted Jedi Knights, as a form of advanced education, enabling the students to apply their studies to real-world problems.

Specially modified starships were converted into mobile schools in the early days of the Jedi order so that Jedi instructors could perform their lessons nearly anywhere they traveled. It was typical for these ships to vary in size and occupancy. The smallest mobile schools were contained within a small transport designed for one Jedi instructor and up to six students. The largest of these schools, such as the Chu'unthor, were large enough for hundreds of Jedi trainees and dozens of instructors.

In the Old Republic, Jedi instructors were quite common, often being turned to as trusted advisers. The instructor's role as an advisor was prevalent throughout Republic history; however, following the formation of the Empire, the execution of Order 66, and the Great Jedi Purge that followed, no Jedi instructors were found, leading many to believe none survived. The New Jedi Order eventually replaced the Jedi instructors with their own Jedi trainers, who fulfilled much the same responsibilities.
