"An associate of mine, Lt. Joth, is in need of assistance. You've proven yourself to be extremely capable, otherwise I wouldn't ask. Could you go speak with Lt. Joth and help him?"
Lieutenant Mack Jasper[1]

Joth was a Human male who lived on Corellia during the Galactic Civil War. He was an officer of the Corellian Security Force.

Biography[]

"It looks like they are running an illegal lab. The keycard that you got should give you access to the main floor. Go there and get all the information you can. You are fully authorized to use lethal force."
―Lieutenant Joth[2]

By the time following the Battle of Yavin, Joth was a lieutenant of the Corellian Security Force, stationed in Coronet City.[1] In 1 ABY,[3] he went to work with a spacer who was highly recommended by his colleague, Lieutenant Mack Jasper.[1]

Lieutenant Joth tasked the spacer to track down rumors about "dangerous things coming" reported by an informant known as Ja'inn. The spacer learn from Ja'inn that one of her contacts, the Bothan smuggler Moril, got scared after shipping some odd items to a group that he couldn't name. When he was interrogated by the spacer, Moril confessed he was hired to deliver animal feed, chemicals and tranquilizer materials to an isolated building and what he saw there terrified him. Lieutenant Joth therefore ordered the spacer to go to the drop location for Moril's shipment and investigate the area.[4] The spacer quickly discovered that the building was an illegal lab,[2] a lab specialized in bio-engineering creatures through dangerous genetic experiments. Lieutenant Joth therefore ordered the spacer to cripple the operations.[5] The spacer thus killed Doctor Maldien, the Chief Scientist of the lab.[6] The spacer then fought the engineered beasts and managed to kill them all.[7] Finally, the spacer overloaded the lab's central computer, destroying all the research data collected. Lieutenant Joth was annoyed by the carnage but satisfied that the beasts were prevented to escape in Coronet.[8]

Behind the scenes[]

Joth appeared as a non-player character in the video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[9] Joth was added to the game with the release of the "Publish 28," on April 26, 2006.[10]

  3. According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
