Jyl Somtay was a female Human Jedi Padawan apprenticed to Lura Tranor.

Somtay was promoted to Jedi Knight in the aftermath of the Battle of Geonosis, and led an occupation force stationed on the planet. She had a close friendship with Master Coleman Trebor and was saddened by his death and the death of her Master at the start of the war.
During the assignment to oversee the local population and stamp out remaining Geonosian resistance, Somtay was contacted by Doctor Frayne who was studying the local culture. Frayne was meant to aide Somtay in uncovering and containing Geonosian war technology, but was secretly looking to steal it for the black market.
The meeting was a trap and Somtay was knocked unconscious, but she quickly recovered and soon after found the doctor's severed head. The duplicious Frayne had herself walked into another trap, one laid by the Geonosians, and had been killed by a Nexu. The Jedi Knight and her collegues managed to escape the creature themselves, when the Nexu was attacked by Rogas.
