K-3PX was a blue-black 3PX-series protocol droid. The droid was in the service of Darth Vader, who used it as an espionage droid and stationed it on Gamandar. While there, it was approached by Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2 who believed its master was Tay Vanis, and that it held information about the second Death Star. In truth, Vanis's droid was Ellie.
Calrissian, Chewbacca, Mone, and C-3PO were all captured by Admiral Griggor Tower, who intended to torture them for information about the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker, and launched an interplanetary missile at Iskalon in order to create a tidal wave large enough to wipe out any suspected Rebel bases hidden there. When K-3PX informed Vader of this, the Dark Lord gave K-3PX orders to arrest Tower for endangering Skywalker.
Behind the scenes
The Marvel comic issues featuring K-3PX consistently spell the droid's name "K3PX." The Hasbro Legacy Collection, however, spelled the designation as "K-3PX," using the hyphen customary of many droids in the Star Wars universe, which was later confirmed by The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.
