Kafane was a poor agricultural planet^[3] that was located within the Kafane system of the galaxy's Hutt Space region.^[1] Kafane was connected to the worlds of Nimia and Ulmatra by the hyperlane called The Dead Road,^[2] and the region of space containing Kafane had come under the control of the Hutt species as early as the year 22,000 BBY^[5] and was considered well-explored by 8,000 BBY.^[6] The local population average of the territory surrounding Kafane was less than hundred million around the year 25 ABY.^[4]

Kafane was first mentioned in The Essential Atlas—a reference book co-authored by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace, and published on August 18, 2009—which placed the planet in grid square S-9.
