- "There it is, R4. Right where it should be. Our missing planet, Kamino."
- ―Obi-Wan Kenobi to R4-P17
Kamino ((pronounced /kə'minoʊ/)) was an aquatic planet located beyond the Rishi Maze,[4] where the clone army for the Galactic Republic was created. It was inhabited by a race of tall, elegant beings called the Kaminoans. Kaminoans were known to be a mysterious species who tended to keep to themselves. They were known for their cloning technology.
History
Pre-Clone Wars
Nearing the beginning of the Clone Wars, Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett was tasked with the assassination of Naboo senator Padmé Amidala. The Mandalorian had fellow bounty hunter Zam Wesell attempt to murder her. After a failed attempt, the Clawdite was pursued by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker. The Jedi soon captured her, but Fett shot the bounty hunter with a poison dart before she could reveal any information. Kenobi, using the dart as a means of finding Fett, was informed by Dexter Jettster that the dart originated from Kamino. Soon, Kenobi found Kamino and discovered the clone army that was being produced in it.[4]
Clone Wars
Following the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Kamino was one of the main operational areas of the Galactic Republic. It served as the main training grounds for clone cadets as well as the location for the clone army's creation.
At one point during the Clone Wars, a Separatist assault lead by Asajj Ventress and droid General Grievous hit Kamino in an attempt to end clone creation for the Republic. However, Republic forces managed to defeat the Separatists and continue cloning on the planet.
Behind the scenes
- "Fighting a war tests a soldier's skills, defending his home tests a soldier's heart."
- ―Opening quote for "ARC Troopers"
Kamino was created for Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, the second installment of the prequel trilogy. The planet later appeared in episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, an animated television series that bridges the gap between Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
