Karena was a female Jedi scholar who first coined the term praxeum to refer to a Jedi academy. The word basically referred to a place for "the distillation of learning through action."

The name is actually a reference to Karen Anderson, who author Kevin J. Anderson acknowledged as the one to invent the word for him out of universe for use in the Jedi Academy trilogy.
