"My empire is forever! My empire cannot end!"
―Queen Karina[src]

Karina the Great was a Geonosian queen from Geonosis who served as the secret leader of the Stalgasin hive and Geonosis during the Clone Wars. Karina was left unable to reproduce after the Galactic Empire sterilized the planet years after the Clone Wars' end. Some time later, Karina had taken shelter in a subterranean lair and attached herself to a droid factory, using the device as a mechanical womb after she lost hers. Driven to such depths to continue her race using Separatist B1 battle droids as her "Geonosian children," she was even more set back when she was visited by the Sith Lord Darth Vader and Aphra, an archaeologist, shortly after the Battle of Yavin. Vader and Aphra stole her factory-womb for themselves, but left Karina alive.

Behind the scenesEdit

Karina the Great first appeared in a 2009 episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Legacy of Terror. In the episode, Karina was presumed to have been killed when mounds of rock crushed her, but it was revealed in the 2016 reference book, Star Wars: Galactic Atlas, that Karina had indeed survived, and had actually appeared in the fourth issue of the Marvel Comics Star Wars: Darth Vader series in 2015—a Geonosian queen appeared in the issue, but went unnamed and unidentified until the release of the Galactic Atlas. Karina's appearance in Darth Vader 4: Vader, Part IV also marks the second meeting between Karina and Anakin Skywalker.
