Little was known about Katak Crystals or their origins. They were generally only found in the lightsabers of dark side Force users. Users of this lightsaber crystal managed to drain some of the life force of those they struck with blade.

in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed this is a crystal unlocked by finding the jedi holocron above the highest turbolaser beam in the incomplete Death Star. The crystal, when applied, allows some lightsaber attacks to siphon an opponents remaining health to you almost like a vampire.
