Kintan strider death gambit

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

A kintan strider game piece.

The kintan strider death gambit was a move in the game of dejarik, in which one player would sacrifice the kintan strider piece. Though normally the loss of the kintan strider would be devastating, the death gambit would often be used to mask an even more devastating countermove from the player who made the sacrifice.

Tsavong Lah considered it the only worthy move in dejarik, correctly deducing that Borsk Fey'lya was using it as a model for his own surrender, as Fey'lya was planning to kill himself and Lah at the same time. When the Yuuzhan Vong Warmaster chose not to take Fey'lya into custody himself, the New Republic Chief of State instead killed 25,000 Yuuzhan Vong warriors as he died.

[edit] Behind the Scenes

This game move is similar in both name and technique to the Chess move Queen's Gambit, in which the player sacrifices his or her queen for a more strategic outcome.
