Kirby was a Rebel officer and wing leader to Rookie One during a patrol to Dreighton Triangle. During that instant, he received a distress call from the Corellia Star who tried to warn the Alliance about the secret Phantom TIE project.
On the pair's attempt to reach the freighter, Kirby's B-wing fighter was shot down by a Phantom TIE above Dreighton.
[edit] Behind the scenes
Kirby's helmet was of the same design as Wedge Antilles. Since Rebel Assault II props were the same ones used in the movies, it's possible that it was the very same helmet worn by Denis Lawson.
