The Kolatill system was a star system in the Kathol sector, which was located in the Outer Rim Territories. The system contained the planet Kolatill, which was the sector's largest producer of repulsorlift vehicles and parts and a major stopping point on the Trition Trade Route. The system was locally governed by the Kolatill Council until 2 BBY, when it came under the authority of the Galactic Empire.
Six years later, following Emperor Palpatine's death at the Battle of Endor, the entire Kathol sector was withdrawn from the Empire by its Imperial Moff, Kentor Sarne, who set himself up as a warlord. The Kolatill system subsequently became part of Sarne's fiefdom. In 8 ABY, Kolatill's population rose up and overthrew their appointed governor after learning that the New Republic had ousted Sarne from his capital, Kal'Shebbol. In the days following this act, they endured two attacks on their planet by forces loyal to Moff Sarne, but were assisted by the crew of the New Republic CR90 corvette FarStar.
Description[]
The Kolatill system was located in the Kathol sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Situated on the Trition Trade Route, it was forty-six hours away from the sector capital of Kal'Shebbol by Class One hyperdrive, or ninety-two hours by Class Two. The system contained the planet Kolatill[1] and at least one other world.[3] The system was connected to the neighboring Torize, Oon Tien, Corjain, Charis, and Aaris systems via hyperlane. Starships traveling from the Kolatill system took one day and four hours to reach Torize, nineteen hours to transit to Oon Tien, five hours to get to Corjain, twenty-one hours to reach Charis, and sixteen hours to get to Aaris III.[4] The system was under local rule until it was subjugated by the Galactic Empire and was controlled by the local Moff, Kentor Sarne—in both his capacity as an Imperial official and independent warlord—until 8 ABY, when the local population overthrew their appointed Imperial governor in favor of the New Republic.[1]

The Kolatill system was under the rule of the Kolatill Council until the Galactic Empire took control of the system in 2 BBY. The Empire placed Moff Kentor Sarne in command of the sector, and he appointed Tetrum as governor in 0 ABY, supplanting the local government. Under Sarne's direction, Tetrum instituted a despotic regime, enforcing martial law and nationalizing all repulsorlift companies—with the exception of the politically connected Ikas-Adno—to produce combat speeders for the Moff's military forces.[1] In 4 ABY, following the Battle of Endor and the death of Emperor Palpatine,[5] Moff Sarne withdrew the Kathol sector from the Empire and established himself as a warlord. The Kolatill system became answerable to Sarne only.[4]
In 8 ABY, Sarne's capital, Kal'Shebbol, was liberated by New Republic forces.[6] As news reached the Kolatill system of Sarne's defeat, the population of Kolatill rose up, overthrew Governor Tetrum, and declared their loyalty to the New Republic. In response, Sarne dispatched the Ton-Falk-class escort carrier Kathol Protector to the system. When the Imperial vessel entered the system, it launched TIE/sa bombers against Kolatill. The bombers assaulted Kolatill's capital city, Domaz, leaving it in ruins. Around the same time, a starship that was traveling in the system was attacked. The vessel was crippled and left adrift between planets.[1]
Four days later, the New Republic CR90 corvette FarStar entered the system, responding to a distress signal broadcast by the Kolatill Council, which had been re-established to govern Kolatill following Tetrum's arrest. While the crew of the corvette offered aid to the citizens of Domaz, a starfighter patrol also discovered the derelict starship drifting between worlds and investigated in case there were survivors. As relief operations progressed, the Kathol Protector returned to the Kolatill system. The FarStar and its starfighter squadron—aided by the newly established Kolatill Defense Force—engaged the escort carrier and its complement of TIE bombers and TIE/LN starfighters. The battle was fought both in orbit of Kolatill and in its atmosphere. The Imperial attackers sought to deploy disease-filled pathogenic bombs against Kolatill's cities, but the combined force successfully defeated the Kathol Protector and its bombers, causing it to withdraw.[1]

Main article: Kolatill was a stopping point on the Trition Trade Route, and its capital city was called Domaz. Kolatill's main industries were centered around the construction of repulsorlift vehicles and parts. Home to 400 million inhabitants—including Humans, Twi'leks and Jarell—Kolatill boasted varied terrain across its surface, including mountains, plains, wetlands, lowlands and agricultural complexes. The planet's axial tilt led to extreme seasons on Kolatill, including harsh winters and sweltering summers.[1]
Secondary planet[]
The Kolatill system contained at least one other planet besides Kolatill. Around the same time as the Kathol Protector first assaulted Kolatill, an independent ship was attacked and left adrift between planets.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The Kolatill system was created for The DarkStryder Campaign, a roleplaying game sourcebook published by West End Games in 1995. The system was featured in the RPG adventure Omens, which was the first scenario in the sourcebook. The system's prime world, Kolatill, was the primary setting for the adventure, written by Bill Smith.[1] The system was later included in 2009's The Essential Atlas[2] and its online companion.[7]
The exact number of planets in the Kolatill system has not been revealed. There are at least two, but the possibility exists that there may be one more. In Omens, reference is made to finding a derelict ship "out between planets." Whether Kolatill itself is intended to be one of the planets in question is not stated, leaving open the possibility that there are two more planets in addition to Kolatill itself.[1]
