Kontag was an important group in refitting starships with additional security systems during the days of the Galactic Republic. The headquarters was located on Pirin. Nearing its end, about a decade before the Invasion of Naboo, its executives made a deal with Lorian Nod to save them from bankruptcy by creating a false necessity among Old Republic Senators for augmented security systems. By accessing Nod's cheap labor pool of children, the company saved itself until the untimely arrival and investigation of Jedi Master Dooku and his Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn.
