[edit] Overview
The militia was clad in armor similar to the Alliance Special Forces of later times. They consisted of soldiers with blaster rifles, vibroblades and rocket launchers. Furthermore, they had the capacity to obtain several war machines such as the new MAAT gunships introduced at the time. The militia also used hundreds of Y-wing starfighters during space operations, such as their attack on the TIE Fighter Construction Yard. Many of the weapons and vehicles they used were bought from criminal organizations, such as Lok Revenants.
Small in number, Kota's Militia chose its battles wisely, usually emerging victorious against the odds. The militia was not the most elite group but its soldiers were brave and dedicated to General Kota, following his orders precisely. Each soldier was prepared to sacrifice himself to protect Kota.

When Jedi Master Rahm Kota was a general in the Clone Wars, he refused to have anything to do with the Clone Army as he never trusted the Clone troopers. Instead, he formed his own unique unit of hardened soldiers which he recruited from local militias, mercenary groups and even Separatist prisoners of war[source?]. After Order 66 was issued, most of Kota's soldiers remained loyal to him and accompanied him into hiding.
They later emerged from seclusion and began conducting hit and run operations against key Imperial targets throughout the galaxy. Though they were not officially a rebellion, this insurgent group caused enough trouble to warrant the attention of Darth Vader himself.
The militia was under the auspices of Bail Organa, who supplied them with intelligence regarding Imperial targets. In selecting targets, General Kota had a tendency to pick targets with a connection to Darth Vader such as installations the Sith Lord had visited. During the Battle of the TIE Fighter Construction Facility, the militia took over the station and drove back the Imperials, but the arrival of Starkiller, Vader's secret apprentice, meant death for most of the militiamen. Rahm Kota was blinded during Marek's attack on him, and was sent free falling to Nar Shaddaa, though he survived and became one of the founding members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic while the remnants of his personal militia were integrated into the armed forces of the Alliance in the aftermath of the Declaration of Rebellion.
[edit] Soldier Types
[edit] Saboteur
Saboteurs were normal soldiers with white overalls, backpacks and helmets, similar to the helmets of Bail Organa's troopers with orange visors. They were equipped with a standard DH-17 blaster rifle and a few cylindrical thermal detonators. Often times, these units would maneuver in small groups and perform guerrilla tactics.
[edit] Heavy Trooper
These soldiers wore a similar armor to that of the saboteur but did not make use of blasters as their primary armament but instead used rocket launchers providing a long range fire support against more armored or dangerous enemies. This meant that they were capable of taking out enemies at a distance but once they closed in, these troopers were vulnerable to an enemy attack which also meant that they relied on the protection of their comrades.

Militia troopers were soldiers trained by General Kota to specialize in using a long, sharp-ended, electrically energized stun baton. Often times, they were deployed to battle in close-quarters in dangerous environments filled with explosives or other hazards. A common tactic utilized by these units was to rush at their enemies in an attempt to surround and overwhelm them before they could react. They wore an outfit similar to later Rebel pilot overalls and the standard Militia helmet without the visor.

The most elite soldiers of Kota's militia were assigned to heavy weapons duty. They were trusted to the important tasks of providing cover fire for their fellow allies and also defending critical positions during raids. They wore a slightly heavier and more protective armor than the standard troopers but still wore the standard helmet that represented the militia. They carried little equipment or supplies, not even wielding any side-arm blasters and bombs. Instead, their only weapon was a Z-6 rotary blaster cannon, which they used not only in defense of their teammates and positions, but also to inspire fear and confusion in their enemies.
