"Millennia ago, before even the Old Republic, there was a wise Jedi, Master Baird Kantoo. Master Kantoo wanted to create a weapon worthy of the Jedi. Using a skill known only to him, he forged kyber crystals into one, solid blade. This was the very first lightsaber."
―Naare[1]

The Kyber Saber was an ancient artifact of the Jedi created by Baird Kantoo and was later discovered by Rowan Freemaker.

Description[]

Kyber Saber crystals

The broken kyber crystals from the Kyber Saber

The Kyber Saber was a sword made out of several pure kyber crystals. It was powerful enough to destroy a rock and then destroy a moon, so its maker smashed it and hid the crystals throughout the galaxy.[1] This lightsaber is only made in Lego form and does not have any replicas.

History[]

Origins[]

Before the dawn of the Old Republic, a Jedi Master named Baird Kantoo forged a sword made of pure blue kyber crystals known as the Kyber Saber. As the first lightsaber, the Kyber Saber was said to magnify the wielder's Force powers a thousandfold. Upon wielding it, Kantoo discovered its creative potential to reshape landscapes and destroy whole planetary bodies with a single swing. Realizing that the weapon was too dangerous for any individual to wield, the Jedi Master smashed it and hid the crystals throughout the galaxy.[1]

The Freemakers and Naare[]

During the Galactic Civil War, the Sith Lords Darth Sidious and Darth Vader learned about the Kyber Saber from the Jedi archives and decided to obtain it. Darth Sidious immediatly wanted to collect all the Kyber Crystals and use them to destroy the galaxy in one big blast. The Sith Lords dispatched the Sith agent Naare to retrieve the shards of the Kyber Saber.[1] Naare traveled to the jungle world of Nal Kapok where in an underground cave she found the first Kyber Saber crystal still embedded in it's original hilt. During that trip, she encountered a Force-sensitive boy named Rowan Freemaker and his B1-series battle droid Roger; whom she saved from being devoured by a dianoga. Naare managed to convince Rowan that she was a Great Jedi Purge survivor. After relating to him the history of the Kyber Saber, she gained Rowan's trust and offered to train him in the ways of the Jedi. Naare then settled with the Freemakers at the Wheel space station by tricking the owner into renting her a room for one credit.[1]

Later, Rowan sensed through the Force that the second Kyber Saber crystal was in the Belgaroth asteroid field. While Naare and his older sister Kordi Freemaker argued about Rowan's safety, Rowan and Roger sneaked off on a ship to the Belgaroth asteroid field. There, they discovered that the second kyber crystal was lodged in a rock over a vat of lava. Despite retrieving the crystal, the two were quickly captured by the Hutt crime lord/expert miner Graballa, who desired the crystal. Rowan's older brother Zander and sister Kordi mounted a rescue mission with the help of Naare. While escaping from Graballa's base, the kyber crystal was sucked out into space. After escaping Graballa and his henchmen including the bounty hunter Dengar, Naare was so enraged with the Freemakers that she attempted to destroy their starship, the StarScavenger. However, Rowan sensed the second crystal and managed to retrieve it; earning Naare's praise in the process.[4]

After a false lead on Cloud City, (for nothing but Lando's cape)[5] Rowan managed to obtain the third Kyber Saber crystal from a Trandoshan statue on the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk. Rowan's discovery pleased his "master" Naare.[6] Despite these initial successes, Naare soon encountered delays in her mission to recover the remaining kyber crystals due to the Freemakers' preoccupation with other matters. Growing impatient, the Emperor suggested that Naare slice up Rowan's family to motivate the boy in a hologram message. Rowan accidentally discovered the message and realized that Naare was a Sith.[7]

Race for the Kyber Saber[]

Rowan informed Kordi, Zander, and Roger and the Freemakers fled their garage (Freemaker Salvage and Repair) on the Wheel. After escaping Naare, the Freemakers resolved to find the remaining Kyber Saber crystals so that the Empire could not use them for destructive purposes. On Takodana, Rowan managed to obtain the fourth Kyber Saber crystal from Maz Kanata. However, Naare joined forces with Graballa, who wanted the crystals to raise funds to build a beachside resort and buffet. In order to catch Rowan, the two reached an agreement to share the crystals.[8] With the help of Graballa's starship Rancor's Fist, Naare managed to steal the fourth, fifth, and sixth Kyber Saber crystals from the Freemakers on Takodana, Ningoth, and Naboo. Despite losing Rowan, Naare managed to track the Freemakers' movements by using a tracking device she had planted on Roger's bagpack.[9]

After learning that the seventh Kyber Saber crystal was on the frozen planet of Hoth, the Freemakers managed to delay Naare by seeking refuge with the former Sith clone Jek-14 on the planet Zoh.[10] When Naare and Graballa learned of their whereabouts, the Freemakers raced their opponents to Hoth. There, Rowan and his siblings discovered that the last Kyber Saber crystal was hiding in an underground ice cavern. After recovering the last crystal, they engaged Naare and Graballa in a brief battle. In the end, Rowan managed to trick Naare by offering a fake ice shard to her. Before Naare and Graballa discovered the deception, the Freemakers fled offworld on the StarScavenger. After their adventure on Hoth, Rowan decided that he could not endanger his siblings. He and Roger sneaked away on a Z-wing (one of Zanders uglies, as Kordi reffered to them as) the Mini Scavenger and fled into hyperspace.[11]

Rowan and Roger hid with the last Kyber Saber crystal on an uncharted planet. There, Rowan completed his Jedi training with the help of Roger's memories and some training droids. Meanwhile, Naare conceived of a plan to lure Rowan out of hiding by torturing Zander and Kordi. Naare destroyed Zander's starship collection and Kordi's credits, causing them emotional harm. Rowan sensed their pain through the Force and returned with Roger to confront Naare. Despite besting Naare and Graballa's henchmen in a fierce skirmish, Naare learned that Roger knew the location of the last crystal. After stealing the droid's head, she terminated her deal with Graballa and used her Force powers to drive him out. Naare then departed on her Eclipse Fighter to reclaim the seventh crystal.[12]

Naare's gambit[]

Using the knowledge stored in Roger's databank, Naare traveled to the uncharted world and reclaimed the seventh Kyber Saber crystal. After reassembling the Kyber Saber, Naare was contacted by the Emperor, who expressed anger that his servant was handling his "prized weapon." Tired of serving the troublesome Sith Lord, Naare rebelled and used the Kyber Saber to destroy an Imperial fleet above Coruscant. Having decimated Palpatine's defenses, Naare attempted to declare herself Empress. During the fighting on Coruscant, Rowan and the other Freemakers managed to steal back the Kyber Saber. Despite being pursued by Imperial forces, the Freemakers escaped into hyperspace. Aware of the Kyber Saber's danger, Rowan decided to destroy the weapon by throwing it into the lava fields of Sullust.[3]

Palpatine was angered by the theft of the Kyber Saber and placed Rowan on the Empire's 27th Most Wanted List. Meanwhile, Graballa and his henchmen caught up with Naare and had her frozen in carbonite as punishment for breaking their deal. In space, the Freemakers joined the Rebel Alliance at the invitation of Admiral Ackbar, who had learnt of Rowan's exploits.[3]

Retrieval and final destruction[]

Unaware of the Kyber Saber's destruction, the Emperor created the hunter droid M-OC and tasked him with capturing Rowan Freemaker and recovering the lightsaber.[13] M-OC managed to capture Rowan but his rival Darth Vader incapacitated M-OC and took the boy to the Emperor.[14]

In captivity, Rowan revealed that he had destroyed the Kyber Saber. While the Emperor was furious, Lord Vader convinced the Emperor that they could use Rowan's Force powers to find more kyber crystals for the second Death Star.[15]

Despite believing that he had destroyed the Kyber Saber, Rowan found that he could still sense the crystals and retrieved them from Sullust. During the Battle of Endor, Rowan used the Kyber Saber (somehow getting them out of the lava) to defeat M-OC, who was guarding the main reactor on the second Death Star. It was destroyed once and for all when Rowan plunged the Kyber Saber into the giant kyber crystal that M-OC had salvaged from the wrecked Arrowhead. The two crystal devices exploded, destroying M-OC. Rowan survived the explosion and was later evacuated by the StarScavenger.[2]
