Laboi II

Average length

2 - 10 meters

The Laboi were one of the few sentient species in the galaxy to have no limbs. They were fur-covered serpentine mammals, two to ten meters long. Since they had no limbs, their simple technology depended on grasping simple tools with their tails or mouths. Some female Laboi had natural telekinetic abilities which allowed them to manipulate objects with a mass of up to five kilograms. The Laboi were from the planet Laboi II, a world which took 4,040 hours to rotate on its axis. This long day resulted in blistering heat at noon, and extreme cold at night. Laboi were well-adapted to both heat extremes. Their fur also changed color, turning white in the day to reflect heat, and turning bright primary colors at night as camouflage against Laboi II's mineral forests.

Laboi were entirely carnivorous, as their sharp teeth revealed. Their preferred prey was the ovolyan, a bantha-sized reptilian quarduped. Ovolyans also ate Laboi when they could, making the hunts quite dangerous. Laboi society revolved around the hunt, with the largest Laboi male as the pack leader. Since Laboi continued growing throughout life, these were also the oldest and most experienced hunters.

Despite their primitive lifestyle, the Laboi were very cultured, with many advanced philosophers and theorists. One of their most impressive art forms was the crystal gardens which they tended at night, using telekinesis to achieve subtle and intricate effects.

Some Laboi were found off Laboi II, where they found intellectual employment as scholars and executives. During the Imperial era, some became crimelords, where they competed with the Hutts. They did not enjoy a particularly good reputation with non-Laboi, who often worried that the Laboi saw them as food. This impression was sometimes correct, since Laboi were aggressive predators by nature, and some held non-Laboi life to have little or no value.
