"Congratulations. You are being rescued. Please do not resist."
K-2SO to Jyn Erso[src]

The Liberation of Erso was the mission to rescue Jyn Erso from an Imperial labor camp on Wobani, held by Extraction Team Bravo of the Rebel Alliance in 0 BBY.

Sometime before the Battle of Yavin,[5] the Alliance to Restore the Republic received intelligence from an informant on the Ring of Kafrene indicating that an Imperial defector had information regarding a weapons test of a planet-destroying battle station. This defector, a shuttle cargo pilot named Bodhi Rook, had information regarding this weapon provided to him by scientist Galen Erso. General Davits Draven approved a mission[6] to rescue Galen's estranged daughter, Jyn Erso, by sending Extraction Team Bravo[3] lead by Sergeant Ruescott Melshi[6] to retrieve her from Imperial custody in a labor camp on the planet Wobani.[1]

The rescueEdit

"Do you want to get out of here?"
―Ruescott Melshi to Jyn Erso[src]

After breaching the entrance to the transport Erso was being held aboard, a pair of Bravo Team troopers neutralized the two stormtrooper guards inside, allowing their commander, Ruescott Melshi, to enter safely. After identifying Erso, Melshi released her from her restraints but was distracted by a prisoner seated opposite, allowing Erso to kick the Rebel trooper over. Heading swiftly towards the newly-made entrance, Erso punched a second soldier and grabbed a shovel from the side wall of the transport, using it to strike Melshi and the third Bravo Team trooper. Running outside to escape, Erso was forcefully seized by former Imperial KX-series security droid K-2SO who threw her to the ground and told her not to resist, informing her that she was being rescued.[1]

Dogfight in the Wobani systemEdit

"Calling all Rebel Alliance vessels. This is K-2SO on behalf of Extraction Team Bravo. We have encountered a minor technical setback. We have taken refuge in an asteroid field and require time to patch up our systems, assistance is most welcome. ....Immediate assistance. Any assistance really. We are transmitting coordinates. ...Did I mention "immediate?""

Dogfight in the Wobani system-X-wing VR Mission

After a successful extraction from the planet's surface, Bravo Team's U-wing transport, Bravo One, encountered a minor technical setback and was unable to jump to hyperspace. The team proceeded to take refuge in an asteroid field in Wobani's star system and a priority transmission was sent to all available Rebel vessels by K-2SO. An X-wing starfighter squadron called Red Flight answered their call and saved them from incoming Imperial forces.[3]

Jyn Erso: "What is this?"
Mon Mothma: "It's a chance for you to make a fresh start. We think you may be able to help us."
Jyn Erso: "Who are you?"
Davits Draven: "You know who she is."
Mon Mothma: "My name is Mon Mothma. I sit on the council of Alliance High Command, and I approved your extraction from Wobani."
―Jyn Erso, Mon Mothma, and Davits Draven[src]

Returning to the Rebel base on the moon of Yavin 4, Erso was turned over to General Davits Draven and Mon Mothma, one of the founders of the Alliance. After being informed of the situation with her father and the Death Star, Erso agreed to retrieve the plans to the battle station.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

The first footage of the Liberation of Erso was shown in the second trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, released on October 13, 2016.[7] The space portion of the rescue first appeared in the Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue One: X-wing VR Mission downloadable content that was released on December 6, 2016 for PlayStation 4 VR.[8]
