The Lightning Rod was a small, beat-up freighter owned by Peckhum, who used it to deliver shipments to various clients and to get to his Orbital Solar Energy Transfer Satellite in which he a large mirror used to focus warmth and sunlight from Coruscant's tiny sun on the planets extreme northern and southern latitudes, warming the environment by a few degrees to make more of the land area on the ecumenopolis habitable, the most notable being Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4.

Following the the siege of the Jedi Praxeum by the Shadow Academy in 23 ABY, Peckhum gave her to the redeemed Zekk, who used it during his career as a bounty hunter.

Luckily for Zekk, the Lighting Rod contained weapons, which Peckhum agreed to install only after the aussult on Yavin IV by the Shadow Academy. The ship also ferried Peckhum to Ennth at one time, after he heard about the natural disasters and went to help.

When Jaina Solo, Jacen Solo, and Tenel Ka were under attack by Boba Fett in the Rock Dragon, Zekk attacked Fett's ship.

The Lightning Rod was stolen by Anja Gallandro, who took it to Kessel. Anja returned to Zekk later.
