Lott Kemp was a Human male crystal merchant who lived on the planet Dodz. Through the Intergalactic Droid Agency, Kemp was in line to receive the droids C-3PO and R2-D2. However, before the droids arrived, Kemp came under some pressure to pay heavy taxes to the corrupt Governor Kugg. Kemp refused to pay the wanted amount, so Kugg sent his droid to "deal with" Kemp. The crystal merchant's shop was totally destroyed by the droid, but luckily Kemp escaped with his life.

When R2 and 3PO arrived at Kemp's shop, they found it completely dismantled and were afraid they would now be masterless. However, Jost Ellon was hiding in the rubble and he took the two droids on as servants.
