Biography
Edit
A Human male, M'Kae served as a Warrant Officer in the Galactic Empire during the time of the Galactic Civil War, a major galactic conflict fought between them and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Sometime following the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, M'Kae was stationed out of the city of Restuss on Naboo's moon of Rori. Here, he oversaw a mission to kill the treasonous Cal Handro, a Human who was double-dealing with the Rebel Alliance.[1]
His involvement in the role included directing an Imperial operative to an Imperial-operated safe house outside another city on Rori named Narmle. There, the operative gained information on Handro's whereabouts. This ultimately culminated in a skirmish above Naboo between the Imperial and Cal Handro's escort, which included a Rebel RZ-1 A-wing interceptor, a B-wing starfighter, and a T-65 X-wing starfighter. The mission was completed when the Imperial successfully destroyed the Warlord Heavy Cruiser, which was being occupied by Cal Handro himself. Upon completing the mission, the Imperial returned to M'Kae, who awarded the operative 5,000 credits and a Bothan inspired BlastTech Special Ops Bola carbine.[1]
The Galactic Empire eventually began researching a technology in Restuss called a Star Core, an object small enough to fit into a backpack, yet powerful enough to power an entire planet or battlestation. Tensions over this technology resulted in a military buildup between Imperial and Rebel forces around Restuss, forcing an evacuation of the entire city. M'Kae was pulled out of Restuss before a violent battle over the Star Core erupted, resulting in the city's destruction.[1]
By 3 ABY, M'Kae became the Communications Officer aboard the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Avenger as part of the Imperial Navy's Death Squadron during the Hoth campaign. His duties also included the coordination and testing of tractor beam equipment. He was the officer to pass along Darth Vader's request for an update on the pursuit of the Millennium Falcon to Captain Lorth Needa. Captain Needa took full responsibility for the loss, and went to apologize to Vader, a decision that cost him his life.
Behind the scenes
Edit
M'Kae was played by Mark Capri. In a later scene of The Empire Strikes Back, when Admiral Firmus Piett gave the order to ready the tractor beams on the Executor during its attempted capture of the Millennium Falcon, reused footage was shown of the Avenger's crewmen, M'Kae included. Since M'Kae was part of the command crew of the Avenger, it is unlikely that this was the same character as M'Kae.
