The Maccabree were a sentient non-humanoid species native to a planet in the Unknown Regions. They were forced to flee their homeworld in light of the Tof invasion and allied themselves with the Nagai, who were in a similar plight. The Maccabree joined the Nagai in invading known space. They were first encountered by the Alliance of Free Planets at the Second Battle of Endor, where they employed cybernetic, humanoid battlesuits manufactured by the Nagai.
The actual Maccabree resided in the thickly armored torso of the suit while the false "head" of the suit presented a ready and meaningless target for enemy blaster fire. The Maccabrees could leave a battle by launching their suits into the air, leaving behind their detachable legs, as they were forced to do when the Combined Nagai-Maccabree force retreated from Endor.
Maccabree also took part in the Twelfth Battle of Zeltros, a number killed by the invading Tof pirates. However, they fought back when allied with the Alliance and Hiromi Empire to defeat the Tofs.

- The species name may be a reference to the Maccabees, ancient Israelite warriors.
- Alternatively, their name could be intended to bring to mind the English word macabre, which means "of, pertaining to, dealing with, or representing death, esp. its grimmer or uglier aspect."
