During the Clone Wars, a Lucrehulk-class Battleship served in the naval forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, where it was used as the flagship of Neimoidian Captain Mar Tuuk. In 21 BBY, the Lucrehulk was placed in command of the Confederacy's blockade of the planet Ryloth, and was contested by a Galactic Republic fleet led by Jedi General Anakin Skywalker.[1]

During the battle, the Lucrehulk, reinforced by six Munificent-class star frigates, managed to repel the Republic fleet. However, the Republic later returned to the Ryloth system and managed to destroy the Lucrehulk by crashing the Venator-class Star Destroyer Defender into its central control core.[1]

Description[]

The Lucrehulk-class Battleship[1] was a 3,356.9-meter long, 3,009-meter wide, and 1,028.77-meter tall[3] vessel that was equipped with three Rendili StarDrive-manufactured Proton 2[4] sublight engines and four sensor rectennas.[5] It also possessed control signal transmission towers[6] and sixteen droid signal receiver stations[7] with signal pickup boost panels designed to squelch noise and interference.[8] The battleship was additionally armed with its own weapon systems, as well as equipped with escape pods and communication systems capable of contacting a Venator-class Star Destroyer or Munificent-class star frigate.[1]

History[]

Battle with Republic forces[]

"Our blockade is impenetrable. When the Republic attacks, they will get quite a surprise."
―Mar Tuuk, in response to Wat Tambor's query on the blockade's readiness for attack — (audio) Listen (file info)[1]

In 22 BBY,[10] during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, the planet Ryloth was invaded by the droid armies of the Confederacy, which resulted in the establishment of a blockade in orbit around the world. Led by Neimoidian Captain Mar Tuuk from a Lucrehulk-class Battleship as the command ship, the blockade was reinforced by six Munificent-class star frigates.[1]

Sometime later, in 21 BBY,[9] the Lucrehulk and the rest of the blockade were contested by a Republic fleet of three Venator-class Star Destroyers commanded by Jedi General Anakin Skywalker. Prior to the battle, however, Tuuk, aboard the Lucrehulk, was inquired by Techno Union Foreman Wat Tambor as to whether or not the blockade was prepared for the Republic's arrival, to which the Neimoidian stated that their blockade was unbeatable and that the Republic would receive a surprise following their arrival.[1]

After the arrival of Skywalker's forces, Tuuk ordered his OOM command battle droid to launch their Vulture-class droid starfighters from their accompanying Munificent frigates against the Republic's Blue Squadron of V-19 Torrent starfighters, led by Skywalker's Padawan, Ahsoka Tano. While the fighters engaged one another, the Neimoidian investigated the Republic's flagship, the Venator-class Star Destroyer Resolute, on a hologram which he confirmed to be the command ship of Anakin Skywalker. However, as Tuuk examined the Star Destroyer, a B1-series battle droid of the Lucrehulk's bridge crew stated that Blue Squadron was closing in fast, to which the Neimoidian ordered them to be patient and to await for the Jedi's strategy.[1]

Repelling the Republic[]

Ryloth system

The Republic Blue Squadron makes an attack run on the Lucrehulk-class Battleship.

As Tano's squadron engaged the Separatists' vulture droids, the Togruta Padawan ordered her fighters to begin their attack run on the Separatist command ship. However, as Blue Squadron closed in on the Lucrehulk, the Neimoidian captain ordered an additional four Munificent-class frigates to the system, which had been positioned elsewhere in preparation for the battle. With additional reinforcements, the Republic fleet became overwhelmed after being caught in a Separatist stratagem, forcing Admiral Wullf Yularen and Skywalker to order Tano and her squadron to return to the Venators.[1]

Disobeying her orders, Tano attempted to continue her run on the command ship, but eventually relented after the fleet became overrun by the vulture droids. After returning to the Resolute, the Republic fleet withdrew from the system, but not before one of the three Venators, the Redeemer, was destroyed. As the Republic fled, Tuuk's OOM commander, aboard the Lucrehulk, inquired as to whether or not they should pursue their fleeing enemies, but the Neimoidian ordered them to remain in position as the Republic would soon return.[1]

Preparing for the second attack[]

Shortly after, Tambor contacted the Lucrehulk once more and asked for the status of the Republic's attack, to which Tuuk replied that their forces were in full retreat with their warships in flames and assured that the blockade was still intact. Ending the transmission, the Neimoidian ordered his droid commander to retrieve the archive data on General Skywalker, desiring to investigate the Jedi Knight's history.[1]

Reviewing Skywalker's archive data, Tuuk stated that he resorted to unconventional means and ordered his bridge crew to prepare their cannons and to send all droids to their designated stations. In confusion, his droid commander wondered if they were under attack, to which the Neimoidian explained that Skywalker and his fleet was likely to return and they were to be prepared.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

This Lucrehulk-class Battleship first appeared in "Storm Over Ryloth,"[1] the nineteenth episode of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars' first season, which originally aired on February 27, 2009.[11]
