Maren Kelsome was a soldier in the Rebel Alliance. He served at Echo Base on the planet Hoth.

Young Kelsome's first assignment as a member of the Alliance was as a scout on the frigid world of Akuria II in 0 ABY, cleaning up the remains of an Imperial base there. Kelsome performed adequately, sweeping Imperial troops from the gutted garrison and helping the native Akurians reclaim their planet. The local Rebel commander, Colonel Odan, promoted the young private to corporal.
When the call for troops experienced in arctic survival reached Odan, Kelsome volunteered and accepted assignment to the new Echo Base on Hoth. Colonel Ledick Firest trained him to function in the more formal military structure at Echo Base, which was more disciplined than the rag-tag group on Akuria II. Kelsome rode a tauntaun as a forward scout at Outpost Beta on the northern perimeter. It was Kelsome's voice that called to station 3-T-8 and reported the first sighting of Imperial walkers. Moments later, the tauntaun and Kelsome, having underestimated the speed of a walker's stride, were crushed under one of its massive footpads before the Rebels fired a single shot.
