Three horns, sharp fangs, rattler
Maritimas were a type of venomous green snakes. They commonly lived in high mountainous areas on the planet of Kessel. Those creatures' limbless bodies were mostly covered with hexagonal scales, with a series of broad lamellar scales on the belly. The top of their heads sported three horns, and Maritimas also possessed a rattler at the end of their tail. In 0 BBY, just before rescuing Princess Leia Organa from the first Death Star, the Jedi Apprentice named Luke Skywalker encountered these creatures while attempting to rescue his Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, from the clutches of Gaos Vader.
Behind the scenesEdit
The Maritimas first appeared in the 1987 Japanese Star Wars video game for the Famicom home console, although the game's canonicity was ambiguous. Their name was revealed in the Japanese language manual of the game, in which it was rendered as マリティマ (maritima) in katakana syllabary.
