"Are you deaf and dumb? Get going!"
―Markan sends an acolyte to receive martial training[1]

Markan was Human male who achieved the rank of assistant Overseer in the reconstituted Sith Empire during the Cold War, between them and the Galactic Republic. Markan worked in the Sith Academy on the planet Korriban during the war, and whilst there served under Sith such as Darth Zash. Zash ordered him to direct acolytes training at the academy to instructors in the archives, who would teach them martial skills.[1] One acolyte he directed to the instructors was the Sith Inquisitor who would go on to become Zash's apprentice, who Markan directed to the Sith Lord Samus.

After the Eternal Empire conquest, when Empress Acina surrendered the Sith Empire to the Eternal Empire of Zakuul, Markan quit his position as Overseer and left the Sith Academy out of disgust, and eventually wound up residing on Port Nowhere.[2]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity.

Personality and traits[]

He saw aliens as inferior to Humans and members of the Sith species, but tolerated them under orders from his superiors. He had pale skin, green eyes, black hair and whilst working in the academy he wore black and red robes.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Markan first appeared in the 2011 BioWare MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, in which he played a part in the quest "A Fighting Chance". The quest was for the Sith Inquisitor class only and directed them to a class trainer. If the player is a non-Human or Sith species Markan will comment on how disgusting he finds them. He is voiced by Nolan North.

Markan can later appear in the "Chains in the Dark" Imperial storyline on Port Nowhere, where he directs the player to meet with Gizmel Gam on Ord Mantell. He can experience unique dialogue if the player is a Sith Inquisitor who previously did his mission on Korriban. For Republic players, the Port Nowhere contact is Jedi Master Cedral Gend.[2]
